A new unique fuel reliability code and associated handbook is provided by A.N.T.International. The code has a new unique and sensitive methodology to detect fuel rod defects, small or large, even in a core with high coolant activity background from previous fuel failures.
APPLICATION
The Fuel Reliability Code – PWR 2.0.0 code was developed based upon about 60 reactor cycles from 3 different reactors where several cycles contained failed fuel that did not degrade or did degrade (causing fuel washout) as well as cycles with no fuel failures. The methodology used is independent of coolant chemistry (e.g. whether Zn injection is used or not) and applicable to all fuel types. The amount of Tramp Uranium estimated by the code was also benchmarked with a degraded fuel rod examined in hot cell where the amount of lost UO2 was measured.
The Fuel Reliability Code - PWR 2.0.0 application can:
- DETERMINE
- If the core is defect free or not
- If all failed fuel from the previous cycle were identified and discharged from the core
- If the failed rod is degrading resulting in fuel washout or not
- Estimate the number of failed rods and burnup of the failed fuel based upon Cs ratio

Participation in an Fuel Reliability Code – PWR 2.0.0 user group
A user group, among Fuel Reliability Code – PWR 2.0.0 users, will be formed which will be a forum for exchange of information in a Workshop for our customers that have the Fuel Reliability Code – PWR 2.0.0 application. The Fuel Reliability Code – PWR 2.0.0 users can attend the Workshop for free. It is anticipated that at least one Workshop will be held annually in conjunction with the annual ZIRAT seminar in Europe.
